Thanks a lot for this, Susan.I like your suggestion about enploying different methods in the papers we are anyway planning to write in WP2. This comes indeed closer to what we had planned in the proposal. We don't have a review planned in WP2 in the proposal, as we were going to carry it out in WP3 in parallel with the one on health (in other words the review on intersectionality included both health and care). But let us give it some thought on this and we will come back to you on this.Best wishes,RicardoSent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

I assume for WP2 you will do a literature review. If so, once you've selected the relevant papers maybe then we could review the methods use in them. This would spare us (Kingston group) doing another enormous literature review and would mean the methods review was directly tied to and arose from existing research. We could decide later whether we need to test all methods to try and determine best methods or whether we do that as part of our novel study using the data sets we've selected. I think the latter idea was what we'd originally planned.Thoughts?SusanOn Tue, 30 Jul 2019 at 03:02, Ricardo Rodrigues <rodrigues at euro.centre.org> wrote:
Dear Susan, dear Afshin,
Thank you very much for the update on WP3. I was worried when I first read the 18K papers and I'm slightly less so with 9-10K. :)
It seems indeed a lot of work to go through all
those papers, but I would be surprise that with such a wide range you will miss out on something. In any case you seem to be doing very good progress!
I see your point about the possible limited added
value of doing something similar for care (we would not have resources to read 8K papers) as the methods will be the same. However, I think we should also have a proof of concept paper on the methods applied to caregiving (i.e. informal care) and/or care receiving,
either separately or as part of your paper on health outcomes. Regarding this, I have two doubts that I would like to discuss next week:
i) I wonder if it would still be worth to do a
review of intersectionality et al methods on care to get information on whether particular methods seem to be associated with particular results (i.e. if any method seems to potentially under/over-value caregiving, for example) against which we would do our
proof of concept.
ii) Whether CLSA will be the best data to test
the methods on care. I would need to remind myself of what are the care variables in CLSA, otherwise we could do the proof of concept on SHARE, for example.
I will add these to the agenda for discussion
next week.
Best wishes,
Ricardo

correction - between 9000 and 10000 papers, not 18000. Makes 9000 seem so much more manageable.

Hi everyone,
First - an update re WP3.
We have done a careful and broad literature search after much back and forth to refine search terms. We specifically added ADL and IADL to the search to fit with Stefan's work. We searched 2014-the
present in PubMed, Cinahl, Embase and Science Citations (I may have that wrong but it is the listing of thesis abstracts). We did not use these terms: intersectionality, interactions, multilevel, mediation (or any methodology terms) as we did not want to limit
to these methods. Results: 18000+ papers. Afshin and I are now reviewing these having made a screening guide. We will both review titles and abstracts for them all (I feel tired saying this) in keeping with systematic review guidelines, although this is likely
a scoping review. I have been through 800 so far. There's a lot of junk despite our careful search. Thank goodness in a way as we want a smaller number when it comes to reviewing the whole papers. We are also keeping notes about papers with methods we were
not aware of, whether they are papers that end up included or excluded from the search. Finally, I am gathering a small list of papers, also from the search, that may be of particular interest for WP1 or 2.
I have applied for CLSA data which we hope to use for a sort of 'proof of concept' paper in which we apply all the methods identified and compare results to determine which method(s) seem to get
at gender the best.
Re caregiving - I do not think we should do a similar methods search re caregiving. I can't think of any reason the methods would be different than those we are finding and the amount of work is
enormous. There are many caregiving papers in our current search however few are about older adult caregivers.
I suspect I have forgotten something but - - enough for now.

Dear all,
Thanks a lot for your availability.
We will have the zoom on 7.8 at 14h00 CET (8h00 CAN time). I think we
might need 1h30 for it (see agenda below).
Stefania, could you please set up the link for this zoom? Thanks!
Here is a tentative agenda for the next zoom (will also post this on
Freedcamp):
i) Discuss progress with lit reviews in WPs 1&3.
I must confess I'm a bit concerned with the progress of these and would
like to see us pick up some pace here.
Susan and Stefan, could you add something about what you will be able to
present and what you would like to discuss, please? It would be great to
have this till Monday next week, if possible
From our side we would like to discuss with Susan how to help her with
the review on intersectionality and care and would like to agree on a
detailed timeline to complete the reviews with you all.
ii) Discuss the ideas we have for task 2.1 in WP2 that we circulated
before.
iii) Initiate the discussion on how to select the social determinants on
which to focus on. We have already started to discuss this (at least
that is my recollection), but it is perhaps good to take this further.
Please let me know if you agree with the above, or if you have anything
else to add (please do!!), before I post this on Freedcamp. Thanks!
Best wishes,
Ricardo
