Dear colleagues,
Please find attached the first results of the cohort analysis for
caregiving for WP2 (Task 2.2, I think).
The document includes an analysis on the evolution of gender and income
inequalities for the probability to give informal care, as well as for
intensity of care. The analysis was done for Europe (except Eastern
Europe) and then for clusters of countries, following the same typology
as used by Stefan and Johan in the WP1 paper on disability trajectories
(except for Eastern Europe - it was not possible to run the models for
this cluster).
For each geographical unit of analysis and gender or income you will
find two graphs: an unadjusted model (similar to the one Stefan and
Johan fitted for the paper in WP1), and an adjusted model which controls
for self-reported health, education and co-residing with a partner or
spouse. I attach also the pdf of a paper referred to in the document.
This is definitely more than what will make it to one article alone and
some results will eventually be shown as a table. The preferred option
right now is to focus on gender, with an analysis of Europe as a whole
(possibly showing the adjusted and unadjusted models) and then the
geographical disaggregation (possibly with the adjusted models only). An
alternative could be to just take the adjusted models and do a
gender/income comparison, plus the geographical cluster?...
The models might not exactly be final yet - gender would likely be added
to the adjusted income models (experimented with this already and
results do not seem to fundamentally change) and vice-versa - but the
results seem relatively robust to some different specifications.
What I would like to ask from you:
i) comments on the results and underlying mechanisms
ii) your opinion on the most interesting story lines to decide on the
exact focus of the paper or papers.
The discussion of this document will be part of the agenda for the next
meeting.
Finally, a big shout-out to Johan and Stefan for their input on the
methods for this!
Looking forward to the discussion and your inputs.
Best wishes,
Ricardo
