Dear all,

As a reminder and background information for the discussion on the Data
Navigator today, below you will find what we wrote in the proposal.
Looking forward to the discussion.

Best wishes,
Ricardo

"A key aspect of FUTUREGEN’s dissemination and implementation of results
will be its data website or Data Navigator. Most of FUTUREGEN’s findings
will be based on detailed secondary data assembled, analysed and
interpreted by the consortium. Findings will explore the evolution of
gender inequalities in health and care across cohorts of older people,
countries and different measures of health (e.g. self-assessed health,
objectives measures of health). Indicators and time-series based on this
detailed data (although not the original datasets – see Part G below)
will then be made available on the Data Navigator. Data will not only be
displayed but also will be downloadable in several tabular formats for
easiness of use. The underlying data for such indicators and time-series
will be gathered from several datasets (e.g. EHSP, EU-SILC, SHARE and
GSS) and harmonized prior to its use by the consortium. The description
(meta-data) and routines employed for this data harmonization will also
be detailed and made available for further use by researchers in the
Data Navigator. Web information will be maintained and updated for up to
10 years after FUTUREGEN’s end as new waves of existing datasets become
available and are added to the Data Navigator. This will ensure that
FUTUREGEN’s impact continues to accrue well beyond its completion:
researchers will be able to use the information for further research on
gender; while policy-makers and advocacy groups will be able to shape
more gender equitable policies and inform public debates on issues of
gender. Costs with data storage and updating after the end of the
project are negligible and will be entirely covered by the ECV. The Data
Navigator will build on the experience of the ECV with similar types of
data websites in the areas of ageing, gender and health such as the
Health Data Navigator (http://hdn.euhs-i.eu/) and the website for
Monitoring the Regional Implementation Strategy of the Madrid
International Plan on Ageing – Monitoring RIS (www.monitoringris.org/)."
