[Futuregen] Review on care and next zoom date

Dear Ricardo, dear all,
I’ve now started to go through the results from the search (as we don’t have a license for Covidence here, I’m using Rayyan). So far, everything is running smoothly – so I don’t really have anything urgent to discuss at this point. I also have a semi-acute dentist appointment on Wednesday, so I probably wouldn’t be able to join in anyway this time.
So, do have the meeting without me – and then maybe just give me a brief update during the 25.9 meeting.
All the best,
Stefan

Dear all,
I just wanted to touch base with you regarding our next zoom meetings. We have one fixed for the 25.9 at 13h30 CET (see below) and we would likely have another zoom this Wed 11.9 at 13h30 CET to discuss mostly the review in WP3 as Afshin is currently in Vienna and we are discussing the review among the CAN and AT partners. This will likely be a rather long one (1.5h at least).
The question here is whether Stefan has already anything on his review that he would like to discuss this week? If not, we would probably have this week's zoom just with Susan (and Stefania, who continues in Ireland) and then we would probably move it to tomorrow. Stefan, let us know what you think, please.
Thanks!
Best wishes,
Ricardo

Thanks, Stefan. We are applying for CLSA data and have included ADLs and IADLs and indicators of physical function in the application. I think we have asked for anything that is covered in your search strategy. So, if we want to use CLSA data hopefully we will have in although it will likely take 3-6 months. We also asked for care receiving.
Cheers!
Susan

Dear all,
I agree with Ricardo; very interesting stuff!
As for WP1, we have refined the search string (see the attached file) and done a test search in MedLine. I reviewed a sample 500 titles, and it seem to work quite well. Now, our search consultant will run the search in three databases (MedLine, Web of Science, and Cinahl) and deliver the results. I should have the results well in advance of our next Zoom – so, I plan send you a couple of papers ahead of the meeting with a suggestion of how to extract the information of interest.
All the best,
Stefan

Thanks a lot for the update, Susan. This looks positively fascinating! We are very much looking forward to welcoming Afshin and see how we can best contribute to this as well.
It might be even worth to have a zoom at some stage just to debate results. :)
Best wishes,
Ricardo

An update on WP3. We have now finished the title and abstract screening of the 9200 articles and are going through the 800 still in the review to identify those we erroneously included (more at the beginning as we were getting going, than later) and to separate the analyses that only controlled for social characteristics. Then we will do the full text review of what we think will be about 300 papers. Afshin will tell you more when he visits. A few things struck us - there is interesting divergence across countries in the sophistication of methods used and it is not as you might expect. For example, there are many good studies from Brazil and few from some developed countries like Germany, France, or even the US. Chinese researchers rarely include sex as a variable. Similarly, there are a few journals that seem more rigorous than others. We have also been developing a methodology for testing designs. That has been very interesting as we apply intersectionality theory to quantitative methods using what we've learned so far from the systematic review. In general, almost no researchers used intersectionality theory although some did study intersectionality.
I hope to have more to report on Sept. 25th.

Dear all,
Just to give you a quick update that we have checked Susan's keywords
for the health review of WP3 (thanks a lot for sending this Susan!) and
after some consideration we decided to stick to the decision and not to
pursue a similar review on care. We think that the review on
intersectionality for health outcomes will be a sufficient base for the
proof of concept on care that we discussed.
I take this opportunity to also confirm with you the next zoom date:
25.9 at 13h30 CET (7h30 CAN time?). Sefan and Susan, if you think we
need a zoom before that date, please feel free to say so. Afshin will be
in Vienna from the 9-11.9 and we could schedule one for those days if
needed. Just let me know, please.
Thanks in advance.
Best wishes,
Ricardo
