<p>P.S.: For everyone's convenience, I copy below the text with the
original qualitative study idea as described in the proposal:</p>
<p>RQ4.1) How are health and care-giving/receiving defined and
perceived by older men and women and<br>
what health outcomes and resources are most meaningful for them?
This RQ will explore the perceptions<br>
of older people with respect to wellbeing in older ages (e.g.
importance of health, function, care, autonomy<br>
and dignity) and which health outcomes and resources (e.g.
material, social capital) matter the most for<br>
ageing well and caring. In-depth semi-structured interviews will
be conducted with 30 persons aged 60+ in<br>
each country: Austria, Sweden and Canada (Task 4.1).
Cross-national comparisons will further augment<br>
understandings of similarities and differences across cultures.
Purposive sampling will maximize variation of<br>
social determinants (e.g. age, SEP) and experience (e.g. caregiver
or recipient, with or without illness). A semistructured<br>
interview guide will be developed and pilot-tested, building on
findings from WPs1-2 and feedback<br>
from our SB. We will elicit detailed views on preliminary
findings/policy messages from WPs1-3, with a focus<br>
on participant views about how sex/gender may affect connections
between SEP and other characteristics,<br>
and quality of life and ageing well. Interview content will be
analysed using the framework method (Task<br>
4.2). This method provides a systematic yet pragmatic approach to
qualitative content analysis that identifies<br>
similarities, differences and defines relationships (see Parts D
and F for ethics, interviews and sampling).<br>

Hi Ricardo and Everyone,<br>
Happy new year!<br>
<br>
I’m looking at the thoughts submitted by the groups on the
purpose of the qualitative study and there seem to be some
similarities between them. I’m not sure what Susan and Afshin
are thinking as their results may be directing their thinking
differently ... but I’m sure we can sort something out. It seems
as if there are some common thoughts around determining how
people perceive ‘aging well’, a focus on function rather than
diagnosis et cetera.<br>
<br>
I wondered if it might be possible to circulate the original
section about the qualitative study?<br>
<br>
I also wondered (and this is just a thought) if you might engage
the SB in development of the research questions for the
qualitative study? I’m not sure if you have been sharing
information all along or what is happening with them.<br>
Having their involvement at this stage could be very helpful and
strengthen the qualitative part of the work. Or - perhaps they
could participate in a focus group of some sort...there are many
possibilities.<br>
<br>
But first, perhaps revisiting what the proposal said it would do
might be wise, so that there is clear justification (to the
funder, the SB?) about any changes.<br>
<br>
A few thoughts and I look forward to listening to everyone’s
views tomorrow!<br>
<br>
Best wishes,<br>
Janet<br>
